2nd Annual Rails to Trails

(Formerly the Glorious Gallop)

The Rails to Trails is a 5K point-to-point race that starts at 113 Chestnut Hill Road.  The race continues down the Air Line Trail and around beautiful East Hampton, to the finish line at Center School.

The Course:

The race starts at the CT Draft Horse Rescue farm located at 113 Chestnut Hill Rd. The first mile of the race leads you down Chestnut Hill to RT 16, crossing over RT 16 to Alden’s Crossing and taking a right onto the Air Line Trail. You will continue approximately two miles down the shade covered Air Line Trail, crossing Forest St. (where there will be a water station), exiting at the Company One Firehouse on Barton Hill. From here, you’ll make a right onto Barton Hill and across Main Street, slightly uphill on Summit Street and a left onto Bevin Boulevard to the finish line at Center School, the Old Home Day grounds.

The first mile of the race leads you down Chestnut Hill to RT 16, crossing over RT 16 to Alden’s Crossing and taking a right onto the Air Line Trail. You will continue approximately two miles down the shade-covered Air Line Trail, crossing Forest St. (where there will be a water station), exiting at the Company One Firehouse on Barton Hill. From here, you’ll make a right onto Barton Hill, left onto Main St. and a right into the Center School driveway to the finish line at the Old Home Day grounds.

Register In-Person: Sign up in-person on Thursday or Friday at the OHD (Center School).

Registration & Bib Pickup

  • Register on Thursday, July 9th, on the fair grounds 7:00-10:00 pm.
  • Register on Friday, July 10th, in the gym at 5:30pm until the last shuttle bus.
There will be no bib pickup at the starting line.

Shuttle Bus Information

Shuttle bus information is coming soon!
Shuttle service from the East Hampton High School (15 N Maple Street, East Hampton, CT 06424) to the starting line starts at 6:15pm.
Please use the facilities before boarding the bus.
 

Rails to Trails Agreement

In order to participate in the Rails to Trails Road Race, a signed waiver needs to be returned to the East Hampton Old Home Days Organization. For participants under the age of 18 years old, a waiver must be signed and returned by a parent and/or legal guardian. Waiver: I know that running is a potentially hazardous activity. I should not enter and run unless I am medically able and properly trained. I agree to abide by any decision of a race official relative to my ability to complete the run safely. I hereby certify that I am in good health and I have trained to run the distance of the race, which I am entering. I assume all risks associated with running in this event including, but not limited to falls, contact with other participants; the effects of the weather, including high heat and/or humidity; traffic and the condition of the road, all such risk being known and appreciated by me. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of your accepting my entry into this running race, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the Old Home Day Rails to Trails, The Old Home Day Committee, its officers, directors, agents and volunteers, the Town of East Hampton, all sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in this event even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons named in this waiver. I grant permission to all of the foregoing to use any photograph, motion pictures, recordings or any other record of this event for any legitimate purpose. I understand that bicycles, strollers, skateboards, roller skates, in-line skates, radio headsets, ipods and dogs are not allowed. Do not forget to thank the sponsors and volunteers.
